Dori
Hillestad Butler grew up writing. She was an only child until she
was nine and there were no other children in her neighborhood.
She sought refuge in the library and books and entertained
herself by writing stories. She continued writing stories right through
her school years, getting married, and raising two sons.
Her first published stories were in children's magazines and then in 1996 her first children's book, a picture book titled the Great Tooth Fairy Rip-Off
was published. After that book she has gone on to write
more than two-dozen picture books and novels for young
readers. She has also "ghost written" ten books in two
series: Sweet Valley Twins and Boxcar Children.
Many of her books have been nominated for children's choice awards (in 18 states) and the first title, The Buddy Files: The Case of the Lost Boy, in her own series was awarded the 2011 Edgar® Award for best juvenile mystery published in 2010.
Butler has a dog named Mouse and together they are a registered Pet Partner team through Delta Society.
When she is not reading or writing she enjoys: hiking, biking, Zumba,
board games, playing the mandolin, and her toastmasters group.
She and her husband and younger son (and assorted pets) live in Coralville, Iowa.
|
Butler speaks frequently at schools in Iowa and across the
United States, and internationally. She has spoken successfully to all age levels -- in
schools, libraries, and at a variety of conferences.
|
| Butler is the author of many picture books, middle grade/middle school novels including: Trading Places with Tank Talbot, Sliding Into Home, Do You Know the Monkey Man, The Truth About Truman School, and the Buddy Files titles.
