Jacqueline Briggs Martin

Jacqueline Briggs Martin is a native of Maine, where she grew up on a dairy farm.  After moving to Iowa she taught preschool, raised a son and a daughter, and began to write.  Her first books (three Bizzy Bones books) launched her career in children's literature.  In addition to her Bizzy Bones books she has written a dozen or more picture books, including the Caldecott Award winning Snowflake BentleyThe Chiru of High Tibet took her to the high plateau in Tibet—a most interesting story in itself and Farmer Will Allen and the Growing Table chronicles the efforts of Will Allen to promote and develop urban gardens. Martin's most recent publication is Alice Waters and the Trip to Delicious, a biography of Alice Waters who, over twenty years ago, was instrumental in establishing the Edible Schoolyard (Berkeley, California) which is today, an important teaching institution and model of edible education that has inspired national and international programs.
Jacqueline lives in Iowa with her husband Rich, where she spends her time reading, writing, baking, gardening and gathering inspiration for more writing. She enjoys meeting her readers and visiting schools, as well as, speaking at conferences and workshops.

Martin is the author of many picture books including: Snowflake Bentley, the Caldecott Award winning book, and her most recent title The Chiru of High Tibet.  In addition she has written Higgins Bend Song and Dance, Banjo Granny, and other titles.
