When
her children were young Jacqueline read them many books. She
found many stories she loved and knew that she had stories of her own
that she wanted to share -- so she bought a tablet and a
new pen and began to write. Since that time she has worked at writing
nearly every day, except holidays or traveling days.
In 1999, Mary Azarian who illustrated her book Snowflake Bentley won the Caldecott Award for those illustrations. Readers have come to love her two aunts in The Finest Horse in Town, the young girl and her pig in The Water Gift and the Pig of the Pig, and the many other characters and settings she has created. Most recently On Sand Island,
a story set on the Great Lakes has been receiving many comments both
for the writing and for the superb illustrations. If you want to
